In advertising class, we completed a tween phone campaign titled "Gotcha!" After reviewing our ads in class, we discovered some things that worked and other things that didn't work. Our weakest ad was the one we did for National Geographic Kids. This ad features a giraffe and a fish underwater separated by a yellow strip of text. The text states "on land or underwater, we gotcha covered." In class we discussed how this ad can be very misleading. If you take a close look at the ad, it could imply that the phone could actually be used while underwater. The phone is not waterproof, but this ad tends to imply that it is. The message that we were really trying to send off is that no matter where your children are, you will still be able to reach them. Better photos of the giraffe and fish also could have been used in this ad. I think that maybe if we worked on improving the slogan and improved our images, it would have turned out a lot better. I do think that our other ads worked out pretty well.
The ad that we used for the Girl's magazine probably could have been better if we had tinted the black and white photo of the shoe. Other than that I think that it still brought about the clear message that at that age girls are thinking about love. The bright pinks helped the phone show through. A lot of grown women can even remember drawing on their shoes. So I think that we did a good job of connecting with the audience on that one.
Our best ad was the one we did for the Game magazine. It features a cute colorful robot representing the fact that this is a phone you will be able to have fun with. The bright blue background brought out the colorful little robot really well. The slogan "the phone you can play all day with" really brought out the meaning of the ad and what the phone can actually do.
First of all I want to say that I loved the boy ad! It's bright, fun and VERY eye-catching! The ad for the National Geographic is almost on the same level. I would take the fish picture and brighten it and saturate the colors to make it stand out. Right now its a little dark and isn't standing out like it could. Same with the giraffe picture, you could make it a little brighter. I like that this ad is split in half so you're not mixing the giraffe and fish; that may make it look like they were together in the same place possibly. The girl ad is very cute! Maybe give it a pink tint, so the shoe and the little heart that was drawn on it are pink in color just to verify that it is for girls. Great job over all!
ReplyDeleteI think you two did an awesome job for your campaign! :) I loved the use of all of the colors, and the images are bold and stand out. The only critiques that come to mind are the slogan phrasing of the ad for the National Geographic ad should be changed, and for the the girl's ad the placement of the name of the phone "Gotcha!" might be a little more eye catching if it was in the middle of the pink background with the two phones on either side of it.
ReplyDeleteI loved this campaign, and to be honest I didn't even notice at first that the girl's ad was in black and white. The top was so colorful it drew me in. Although I completely agree that to be more consistent you'd need to change the shoe to color. If it were my ad I'd definitely try and pick up on the pinks of the phone, or maybe the print of the skin (if that isn't terribly difficult to do in Photoshop). Otherwise I loved your ads, excellent job.
ReplyDeletei completely agree with the changes you feel we need to make! i think out of all three of our ads this one was the weakest to begin with so i now feel confident about our overall campaign! great job.
ReplyDeleteYour ad campaign is very interesting and strong! I think you and your partner did such a good job targeting the preteen population. I agree with you that the slogan could be changed in the first ad to be more clear, although I really like the idea. Changing the girl's ad to color would also help with the consistency of the ad campaign as a whole. As for the boy's ad, I absolutely love it! Overall, you and your partner did a great job!
ReplyDeleteGreat format and composition of your ad! I really enjoy the setup. I think they are all very strong. I didn't even notice that the ad implies that it is waterproof, but I can agree that it needs to change.
ReplyDeleteReally liked the ad campaign itself as a whole. My favorite ad would have to be the first one with the animals, although there could have been a little more creativity with that ad. The only thing that really needs changed is the fact of the waterproof issue. I along with everyone else feel that in order for this to be as strong as it can be that needs to be changed.
